MAPS & DIRECTIONS
FOLLOW
THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW FOR DIRECTIONS TO TOURNAMENT LOCATIONS! PLEASE DO NOT ASK COACHES FOR DIRECTIONS.
Perhaps the most nagging aspect of
running a travel team is providing directions to team parents, friends
and family members. The time and effort involved in managing the team,
running practices, coaching tournament games, making group travel plans
and collecting funds is extensive. Getting directions is the responsibility
of players/parents/friends/family:
1. Most tournaments now have web sites. If you Google
the host team's name or the tournament name, you can almost always find
a link to the team's web site. Every tournament web site will have
directions located on their web site.
2. If you cannot find the tournament web site, the vast majority of tournament and
non-tournament
games are played at high school, middle school and/or college sites.
When you receive the schedule for each tournament, it will include the
names of the school sites at which the tournament games will be played.
3. Google Maps makes finding colleges, high schools and middle schools very easy. Go to Google Maps
and enter the school name (with town/city in which it is located). The address of the school will be displayed along
with a map of the surrounding area. You can then get directions from
Google Maps or use the address to get directions through one of the
mapping services listed in #4 below.
4. Once you have college, high
school and/or
middle school addresses, there are a number of
mapping/directions
sites on the Web that you can use for directions. You can stay on the
Google site
and click "Get directions"; OR, you
can enter the
school
address at another mapping service web site. Other reliable mapping
services
are: Yahoo
Maps, Rand-McNally and Maps On Us.
Rand-McNally has proven
the most
reliable and accurate over time. ALL MAPPING SERVICE WEB SITES ARE FREE
OF
CHARGE.
5. In the case of college game
sites, it is
also a good idea to check out the college's web site. They often have
narrative directions and college maps that can assist you in getting
directly
to the game site. College web sites are very easy to find. Entering the
college name in a search engine will almost certainly lead you to the
college's
main site. Almost all colleges have an ".edu" extension and you can
often
find the college web site by simply entering the college name with
".edu"
in your browser's web address line at the top of your browser (for
example, "www.hartwick.edu" or "www.maryland.edu").
6. Directions to and from motels/hotels
can
be similarly mapped. Most motels/hotels have web sites that can be
found using a search engine. Those web sites often have narrative
directions to their locations.
